Juicing and Bisquits and Gravy

I should have known better.  The minute I go and brag about eating healthy, that evil temptations and visualizations of comfort food would haunt me?  Loud grumblings from somewhere below, I believe it was my stomach, groaned for real food.  That I would even have the audacity to express the thought of going Veganjust what was I thinking? Didn’t I know that verbalizing good intentions would be the beginning of the end of eating healthy?

It’s like when I was working and I said I would be in to work early the next morning.  That was a sure sign I’d be late, very late.  Or, when I promised I would leave work at 5:00pm, that was a sure sign that I would be there until at least 7:00pm, but often way later.

So, I should know better than to admit good intentions of diet.  At least for me.  It seems to be my bad luck to express good intentions and promises…to myself anyway.

And what brought on these claims?  Tuesday at bible study I must have smelled the Daycare’s lunches.  They sure feed those babes good food.  Something in the aroma made me think of bisquits and gravy.  So after bible study I headed to the local  Sav-A-Lot, purchased country style sausage and big flakey bisquits.  Instead of juicing I made bisquits and gravy and have been eating the leftovers ever since.  Tuesday I ate most of two bisquits and gravy.  Then yesterday and today I enjoyed one bisquit with gravy.  Yesterday I did juice celery, spinach, sprouts, carrots, ginger root, and parsley.  I never got around to juicing today, but tomorrow I will juice.

Today I purchased collard greens, turnip greens, and kale for juicing.  Tomorrow I plan on having one heck of a healthy juice drink.  I will add a radish for a kicker.  It’s truly fun to mix all the vegetables but no matter how many different vegetables I include, it always has a similar taste.  Oh, there might be a bit of a difference, but not much.  I really am hooked on the taste and the way it makes me feel.  I think I am noticing the difference in absorbing the nutrients by juicing rather than having to digest them and perhaps missing out on some?  I’m not sure how that works exactly.

Another Myeloma blogger who eats far healthier than I posts pictures of his meals.  Of course he cheats, as he has a wonderful wife who looks out for his best.  His meals look absolutely delicious.  He’s also an expert on Myeloma and I’m amazed at his knowledge.  I need to read, no study his blog as well as one other lady.  For those of you with Myeloma, I strongly suggest you also read these blogs for encouragement and education.  They are: myleomahope.blogspot.com (this is “Don” with the neat pictures of his food) and myelomablog.com (Beth Morgan–has done a lot of research on Curcumin).  I will later note some good blogs for references because I have found some good ones.  Some of the blogs are from healthy people that are inspiring and/or knowledgeable in various healthy lifestyles, e.g. Vegan eating.

Now, in my hillbilly imitation of Don posting pictures of his food, I will post a few pictures of what I juiced and ate last week.

First, here is a bowl of the vegetables I juiced.  Don’t they look delicious?

   Veggies for Juicing

Then the veggies turn to liquid….like this…

Then you get a nice glass of green stuff like this…..

Finally, when not juicing but eating healthy (does not include bisquits & gravy)–I try to eat like this.  Yes, that’s chicken in there.  OH….but looky here…I got busted…notice the Valomilk in the background? I haven’t eaten it yet…but it’s available.

  1. I LOVE juice. I used to do it a bit when I first got my myeloma dx. I had 2 juicers because they were just a pain to clean up. I found that I stopped juicing for that very reason. White kind of juicer do you have? Is it hard to clean?

For what it’s worth, I used to pay very close attention to my diet in the first year after I learned I had MM. I limited everything! No simple carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no red meat. My test results never changed after I fell off the wagon. I know it’s better for me to eat right all the time, but I know it’s not always possible. What Dr. Richardson from Dana Farber said to me was, “all things in moderation.”

You’re doing great, and I know you can keep it up. Don’t beat yourself up when you have a lapse. :)
